The "Summit Mission 2022" comprehensive scientific expeditionin the extremely high altitude area of Mount Qomolangma was launched on April 28th. The expedition would apply advanced technology for the first time and put forward innovative scientific plans for the protection of the nature of Mount Qomolangma. As the backbone of the research team, Sun Weijun, associate professor of School of Geography and Environment of SDNU, has contributed "SDNU's strength" to the "Summit Mission 2022"expedition.

Mount Qomolangma is the highest peak in the world and also the focus of global climate and environmental change research. Since the launch of the comprehensive scientific expedition to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in 2017, the expedition would cover the widest range of subjects, involve the largest number of expedition participants, and employ the most advanced instruments and equipment.

At present, Sun Weijun leads a group of 5 people, in the harsh environment, constantly debugging and maintaining the automatic weather station, data collection and scientific research.

China has carried out more than six scientific expeditions to Mount Qomolangma since the 1950s. The expedition would be the first to break 8,000 meters above sea level and complete a comprehensive scientific expedition to the summit of Mount Qomolangma, a feat of scientific investigation and research in the region.
