Changqinghu CampusSDNU has two campuses, which are Qianfoshan Campus and Changqinghu Campus, covering a total area of nearly 3,850 mu (about 2.56 million square meters) and a building area of about 1.35 million square meters. There are 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center for higher education, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, 1 key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 7 key laboratories of Shandong Province, 1 engineering laboratory of Shandong Province, 1 big data laboratory of Shandong Province, 6 engineering technology research centers of Shandong Province, 4 key research bases of social science theories of Shandong Province, and 2 research bases of Shandong Province,1 Shandong Provincial Key New Think Tank, 5 Shandong Provincial Higher Education Collaborative Innovation Centers (including 1 demonstration center), 7 Shandong Provincial Higher Education Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, 9 Shandong Provincial 13th Five-Year Plan Higher Education Research Innovation Platforms, 2 Shandong Provincial Bases for the Inheritance of Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture, 1 Shandong Provincial Social Science research center. The library has a construction area of 64,400 square meters, a collection of more than 3,428,000 paper books and journals, more than 1,410,000 electronic books, and 206 databases and learning and research platforms.
There are 22 colleges (departments), 67 undergraduate majors, 13 post-doctoral research stations, 15 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degree, 1 authorized point for doctoral degree, 35 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degree and 19 authorized points for professional degree, covering ten disciplines, and the number of disciplines and professional degrees is among the top in provincial universities. There are 1 national key discipline and 1 national key discipline (cultivation), 7 disciplines are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI database, 6 disciplines are in the construction of high level disciplines in Shandong Province, 2 of which are in the construction project of "peak disciplines", and 1 discipline is in the construction of high level disciplines and cultivation disciplines in Shandong Province. 13 disciplines were ranked B in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, which is the best result for universities in Shandong province. 24 disciplines were listed in the 2022 Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking, of which 6 disciplines ranked first in the province and 6 disciplines ranked first in the provincial universities. In the global nature index ranking, the university has been ranked first in Shandong province for 6 consecutive years, and ranked 38th in mainland China in 2022. SDNU has 9 national specialty construction points, 40 national first-class undergraduate specialty construction points, 11 first-class undergraduate specialty construction points in Shandong Province, 6 majors (groups) have been approved as key majors (groups) for high-level application-oriented construction in Shandong Province, 2 majors (groups) have been approved as Shandong Province Education Service for New and Old Kinetic Energy Conversion Professional Matching Industry Project, and 7 majors have passed the second-level certification of teacher training majors.
SDNU has founded a Basic Education Group. Middle school, the second middle school, and a primary school attached to SDNU are provincial standardized schools and provincial civilized campuses.The Basic Education Group is committed to promoting the balanced development of education, and actively carries out the business of foreign cooperative education, operating more than 60 schools, covering 12 cities in the province and radiating outside the province to Guangdong, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Tibet, etc., benefiting 130,000 students.
SDNU has participated in “Quality Project” of the Ministry of Education. Four people are awarded with the National Distinguished Teacher,2 won the title of national "Ten Thousand talents Plan". SDNU has been honored with 18 National Teaching Achievements Awards, built two national teaching teams, carried out 1 project of national comprehensive reform pilot, was awarded 4 national high-quality courses, 8 national high-quality resource sharing courses, 2 national high-quality video open courses, 1 national bilingual teaching demonstration course, 8 national first-class undergraduate courses and 65 first-class undergraduate courses in Shandong Province. 6 textbooks of the National 12th five-year Plan have been published.SDNU has 1 national experimental zone for the innovation of talent training mode, 2 public training bases for the transformation of new and old kinetic energy in Shandong Province, and 2 national education information teaching application practice community projects. SDNU has been approved by the Ministry of Education of the first batch of new engineering research and practice projects, the Ministry of Education's first batch of new liberal arts research and reform practice projects, national local university students off-campus practical education project, 1278 projects in the national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program.
Adhere to the characteristics of teacher education, SDNU established an education system with complete types of education such as basic education, higher education and continuing education, and form an education theory talent training system that integrates the cultivation of bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctor's degree and post doctoral research. SDNU leads the establishment of the "Three Provinces and One Autonomous Regiont" Research Institute of Teaching Development of College Teachers in the Yellow River Valley, and Shandong Higher Education Alliance for College Teachers . SDNU is the first university in the province to undertake the "National Training Plan".Educational theory research and its application have obtained significant results, with the total number of awards ranking the first among all provincial colleges and universities. The doctoral and master degree authorization points in Pedagogy, Psychology, Curriculum and Teaching Methodology and Education Technology that reflect the characteristics and advantages of teacher education fill the gaps in Shandong Province.
There are currently 25,375 undergraduate students and 8,412 graduate students (including 610 doctoral students). Since the founding of SDNU, it has trained more than 500,000 qualified talents, including a large number of outstanding people dedicated to education and education administrations, as well as many rigorous and realistic scientists, famous artists, visionary statesmen and excellent entrepreneurs.
Among the whole staff of 2,831, there are 2,119 full-time teachers, of which 417 teachers are full professors and 878 are associate professors.There are 8 dual academicians, 54 people were selected into the national "10,000 people plan", Changjiang scholars (including youth), national outstanding youth and other national talent projects (projects)， of which 22 people were awarded the national honorary title of National Excellent Teachers,96 people enjoy the special government allowances of the State Council. Two teacher teams were awarded the "National College Huang Danian Style Teacher Team".
Since the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, SDNU has undertaken more than 1,100 projects such as the national "863", "973", the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Fthe National Social Science Foundation. In 2012, SDNU became the chief scientist institution of 973 Programs. In 2019, it became the first provincial university in Shandong Province to win the National Natural Science Award as the first unit. SDNU has won 2 second prizes of the National Natural Science Award, 3 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 11 major projects of the National Social Science Foundation, 4 major projects of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 3 projects of the National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars, 2 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Science Fund projects, 23 awards for outstanding scientific research in colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education (humanities and social sciences), 2 first prizes of the National Education Science Outstanding Achievement Award, 1 Lu Xun Literature Award, and 6 major achievements in social sciences of Shandong Province. The highest award of natural science in Shandong Province, etc. 4 works were selected into the National Library of Philosophy and Social Science Achievements. The overall strength of humanities and social sciences has entered the top 50 in the country. 1 team was selected as the innovation team in the key areas of the Innovation Talent Promotion Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 1 team was selected as the innovation team of the Ministry of Education and received rolling support.
SDNU is one of the first batch of foreign students’ enrollment institutions approved by the Ministry of Education,one of the first batch of institutions receiving Confucius Institute scholarship students,one of the first batch of institutions jointly recruiting overseas Chinese, students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan,One-form approval pilot unit for official overseas visit,the only provincial university in Shandong Province with the qualification of “inviting subjects without verification”.
SDNU has successfully been approved the “Disciplinary Innovation Talent Introduction Program for Higher Education Institutions (111 Plan)” and Shandong Provincial “Double Hundred Program” .
SDNU has also established inter-school exchanges and cooperation with 158 institutions in 32 countries and regions. SDNU has carried out more than 100 international joint training projects for students, and achieved the full chain coverage from credit projects to bachelor's, master's, doctor's and post doctoral research projects.SDNU is one of the universities that hosts a large number of Confucius Institutes in China. It has won the title of "Confucius Institute's Advanced Chinese Cooperation Organization", and is an advanced unit in international exchange work in Shandong Province.So far, 6 Confucius Institutes (including one independent Confucius classroom) have been built in South Korea, Kenya, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Canada.
At present, SDNU is seizing the opportunity to push forward the reform and accelerate development to strive to build a first-class comprehensive normal university.
