On July 22, the "language and Society" and High-end Forum on the Construction of a Foreign Language Think Tank was held .Zhou Zhonggao and Wang Chuankui attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Experts from 10 domestic and foreign universities, including Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai Foreign Studies University, Zhejiang University and Arizona University in the United States, delivered keynote speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Zhuo, director of the School of Foreign Languages of Shandong Normal University and editor-in-chief of Shandong Foreign Language Teaching.
Zhou Zhonggao fully affirmed the necessity and urgency of the construction of foreign language think tanks, put forward and explained in detail the important tasks of foreign language think tanks to provide professional advice to the government, actively participate in the process of opening up to the outside world, introduce excellent achievements of foreign civilization, and train outstanding talents for opening up to the outside world. Wang Chuankui introduced the development of Shandong Normal University in the past 70 years, and briefly introduced the main achievements made by the School of Foreign Languages in teaching, scientific research and discipline construction in recent years.
Focusing on the close relationship between language and society and the needs of China's current economic and social development,professors and experts from domestic and foreign universities discussed deeply the necessity, feasibility, path and strategy of the construction of foreign language discipline think tank. The forum was conducted both online and offline. More than 8000 experts and scholars, university teachers and students attended the online meeting.
