In the afternoon of May 18, Wang Hong, chair professor of ChangJiang Scholar, accredited overseas expert of Taishan Scholar and tenured professor in the Faculty of Math in University of South Carolina in the US, signed the employment contract with Shandong Normal University. He was officially employed as the high-level overseas talent to work full-time in SDNU. President Tang Bo and Professor Wang had an informal conversation in the office building of the Qianfoshan Campus.
TangBo warmly welcomed Professor Wang Hong’s coming and briefly introduced the reform and development of SDNU in recent years. He pointed out that Professor Wang, who had cooperated well with SDNU before, had made outstanding achievements in the field of computational mathematics and enjoyed a good academic reputation and influence at home and abroad. He hoped that Professor Wang could get familiar with the working environment as soon as possible and quickly get into works of current comprehensive reform of higher education and “Double First-rate" construction. By actively promoting work on academic research, discipline and talent team construction, international cooperation and exchanges, the overall level of mathematics could be enhanced continuously.
WangHong expressed his gratitude for the concern and trust of SDNU. He said that by bringing the influence and advantages into full play, he would earnestly carry out his duties and contribute to the development of SDNU based on the sound development of Discipline of Mathematics.
Wang Hong, a Chinese-American who was born in April 1960 in Jinan, Shandong Province, is a tenured professor in the Faculty of Math in the University of South Carolina in the US. Mainly engaged in the academic research on computational mathematics, he has published more than 100 high-level academic papers in top international journals. Moreover, he works on five national natural science foundations of China, the United States, Norway and other countries, winning second in the Scientific and Technological Progress of National Education Commission. In addition, he works as a part-time member of the editorial board and has other positions in some influential international journals.
