In the afternoon of May 15th 2017, party secretary Shang Zhixiao and the vice president of SDNU Zhang Wenxin met with Professor Jukka Hyönä, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences in the University of Turku of Finland and other experts, at the second floor of the Wenhua Building in Qianfoshan Campus. Relevant responsible leaders of the School of Psychology, Social Sciences Office, and International Exchange and Cooperation Office also attended the meeting.
Shang Zhixiao extended his warm welcome to the visitors. He said that Professor Hyönähad made fruitful cooperation with the School of Psychology in recent years, which laid a solid foundation for deep cooperation between these two universities. This visit would further strengthen exchanges and broaden channels of cooperation, in order to promote the discipline construction in the School of Psychology and to push the international exchanges and cooperation in running schools to a new high. He pointed out that the University of Turku had a long history and strong strength, Based on this, he hoped to deepen the exchange and cooperation. He added that representatives of SDNU would visit the University of Turku in the near future to discuss the possibility of cooperation in fields such as student-teacher communication and student co-cultivation in more disciplines including psychology.
Professor Jukka Hyönä thanked our university for the warm reception. He said that the primary purpose of this visit was to discuss carefully with the professors of the School of Psychology in SDNU who shared common interest in academic research areas and to explore the feasibility of a students’ training program on psychology between University of Turku and SDNU.
Subsequently, Zhang Wenxin, together with expert team from the School of Psychology held a work conference with Professor Jukka Hyönä. After reviewing the situation of academic cooperation and achievements, they fully conducted communication on their research contents respectively and had a deep discussion on research and cooperation projects of the next stage. Moreover, they exchanged views on the development and cultivation of undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in psychology and on international cooperation and exchanges.
In the following week, Professor Jukka Hyönä will hold a number of academic lectures and academic talks in the School of Psychology. Professor Jukka Hyönä has been engaged in the study of language cognitive processing for a long time. He has published more than a hundred articles with important international influence which deeply study the effect of eye movement processing in reading, recognition of emotion, and attention load on cognition. In May 2014, he conducted an academic visit to the School of Psychology in SDNU and gave a favorable comment to the laboratory construction, student training, and academic research of postgraduates and teachers.
It is known that the University of Turku is a member of the universities of Coimbra Group. According to the 2017 US News released by U.S.NEWS & World Report, the University of Turku was listed No.3 among all universities in Finland. It has seven affiliated faculties and 11 independent research institutions. With nearly 20,000 registered students, it provides higher education for undergraduates, masters and doctors. In order to attract international students, some courses are also taught in English.
